The original “Faces of the Ranger” blog started on May 3, 2005, on the (now-defunct) GuildPortal web site. I had just been working on creating a guild site for the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, a game I’d come to be very enthusiastic about-the first MMO I’d ever played. The site included a blogging section, so I quickly began putting up regular posts there. I continued to expound on my doings throughout that year, until the infamous NGE (New Game Enhancements) hit and drove me away from the game. But I kept the blog up through my various MMO gaming, including World of Warcraft, EVE Online, City of Heroes, and several others.
However, as time went by, I’d been involved with several guilds, and with several user-ids, and I felt the time was right to move the blog away from GuildPortal and to a new location. (This turned out to be a good move when GuildPortal announced its closure years later). Thanks to WordPress, the blog lives on and hopefully, those who come across this blog will visit from time to time to see what drivel I’ve got to say about MMOs, both specific and in general.
Why “Faces of the Ranger”? My first character in Star Wars Galaxies was Coreth Landwalker, and yes, he was a Ranger by profession-a hunter/survivalist. Many characters made since in many other games have had a version of the character, at least in appearance, and I continue to honor the character today by using the name of his profession for this blog.
